Tattooed and Tenacious: Inked Women in California's History

From the working-class Tattooed Ladies who performed in circus sideshows to the upper-class inked women who helped popularize the tattoo craze, visitors to our new traveling exhibit will discover the largely unknown history of California women in the tattoo arts.  In addition to photographs, historical objects, and personal histories, Tattooed and Tenacious is supplemented with tattoo-related historic artifacts and a variety of memorabilia and flash, plus contemporary California Native art with tattoo themes.  This exhibit contains some explicit content. Viewer discretion advised.

Tattooed and Tenacious is a traveling exhibition organized by Exhibit Envoy and supplemented with additional material from the Grace Hudson Museum, Triangle Tattoo and Museum, and the collections of various tattoo artists. The exhibition is made possible through the efforts and generosity of the Sun House Guild.
