Writers Read: Ukiah's Literary Salon

  • Grace Hudson Museum & Sun House 431 South Main Street Ukiah, CA 95482 USA (map)

In anticipation of the 2024 Ukiah Haiku Festival occurring at Ukiah City Council Chambers on April 28, the April Writers Read program will focus on haiku and other short forms. Former Ukiah Poets-Laureate Armand Brint, Michael Riedell, and Dan Barth will say a few words about haiku and other short forms, with examples from their own work and the work of others. An open mic session will follow. Readers are encouraged to read or recite haiku and other short poems, but other forms are welcome. We will keep to our usual six minutes per reader, but there may be time for more than one round.

Writers Read has been happening in Ukiah since 1999, and occurs on the last Thursday of almost every month. The program focuses on poetry, spoken word, short stories, song, and expository prose. The evening typically begins with a featured reader and then is followed by an hour of open mic starting around 8:00.
