Organized by Theresa Whitehill and Felicia Rice, co-creators of the artist book, Heavy Lifting, and the digitally-printed paperback book, The Heavy Lifting Companion, this pop-up exhibition will include the artist book itself as well as a variety of materials related to the book’s conception and creation. The innovative book structure of nested, accordion-fold panels features Theresa’s poetry in conversation with prints by Felicia.
Heavy Lifting acknowledges the almost unbearable pace of relentless crises that have unfolded in recent years — COVID, climate change, racial injustice, the threat of totalitarianism, immigration struggles — and begins to ponder what might lie beyond. Word and image merge in this time capsule for the future, alternating grief, tenderness, defiance, and outrage in a historic time of turbulence and renewal.
The Heavy Lifting pop-up exhibition is included with Museum admission.
