Acorn Day returns to the Grace Hudson Museum, with three distinct but related programs.
1:00 PM: The Beautiful Tree
Eric Wilder (Kashia Band of Pomo Indians) will introduce a 20-minute film, The Beautiful Tree, featuring his grandmother Essie Parrish demonstrating how to harvest acorn as well as make acorn mush and bread. Also Kashia Pomo, Essie was a renowned basket weaver, healer, and spiritual leader. Following the screening, Eric will expand on the film.
2:00: Sudden Oak Death
Dakota Perez Gonzalez (Yurok Tribal Member and also of Pomo descent) will discuss what sudden oak death is and how it can be stopped.
2:30: Acorn Bread
Patty Franklin (Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians) will demonstrate how to make acorn bread and also share about acorn processing. Visitors will be able try samples!
The entire program is included with Museum admission. Admission is always free for Native Americans, Museum members, and active-duty military.
